Sylvia and I were able to make it to Christmas at Luther on the first weekend in December again. The music was stunning, as usual. Billed as “And on Earth, Peace,” the program celebrated the 100th anniversary of the World War I Christmas truce. After Pope Benedict XIV had suggested a truce and the nations involved (except Germany) had declined, the troops on the ground marked Christmas 1914 in their own way – by meeting hand to hand, sharing care packages from home, and playing soccer. Near the close of the program at Luther, pictures from that day were projected on a large screen as everyone sang “Silent Night.” It was incredibly moving!
