Class of 1968 Summer 2018 Reunion Letter

Summer 2018

Dear Class of ’68 Classmates,

You’ve heard it before, time after time, on and on, but I’m going to say it once more, “WE’RE CELEBRATING OUR 50 YEAR CLASS REUNION THIS FALL!!!!!” (I hope you caught the subtlety of my message). It’s coming, it’s coming fast, and before you know it, October 26 will be here and we will be nervously looking for familiar faces as we roam the Union and campus, oohing and aahing at the changes that have been made in the past 50 years.

This is as big as any class reunion any of us will ever have. We have been so blessed to be able to be here and to be a part of this celebration that I hope EVERYONE will take advantage of this opportunity. As members of the Reunion Planning Committee, Joan and I enjoyed writing and calling you to share information and to catch up with you and your lives. I was impressed by how warmly we were received by you and how responsive you were to our communication with you. Let’s keep that going by meeting at Luther in October and sharing the fun and spirit of community that has been a significant part of the Class of ’68, a very special group.

Don’t put off making your plans now. Travel plans, lodging plans, dog sitting plans, whatever plans you need to make to get away from the routine for a couple days and travel back to rejoin friends and classmates that were such important parts of our lives while we were students at Luther.

Included with my letter is a schedule of events for Homecoming Weekend and directions for registering online or by mail. However, I want to call special attention to a couple of items:

·  Please update your information on the Alumni Directory. You may access this at luther.edu/alumni/directory. If you do not already have a username and password, an account can be created by contacting the Luther Technology Help Desk at (563) 387-1000.

·  The Alumni Dinner will be held in Dahl Centennial Union Dining Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26. This is when our Reunion Gift will be presented on behalf of our class, among many other honors and awards that you will want to enjoy.

·  Our Class Luncheon will be in Peace Dining Room on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m. (no charge). Join former faculty and staff, along with President Paula Carlson for a welcome and update.

·  Our Class of ’68 Reunion Dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. (reception at 5:30 p.m.) in Peace Dining Room in the Centennial Union.

To stimulate conversation and evoke memories at the reunion, classmate, Warren Luckner, is compiling a slideshow of photos from our Luther days. Please email any photos you might have to Mariah Smith: [email protected]. Or, mail originals to Mariah Smith: Loyalty Hall, Luther College, 700 College Drive, Decorah, IA 52101. She will scan and mail them right back to you. Please have photos to us by Monday, October 1.

Warren has already been working on some videos. You can view them on Luther’s web site at: luther.edu/giving/reunions/1968/

Registration is available online: luther.edu/homecoming or you may use the reply form included with this letter.

I want to thank all of the Reunion Planning Committee members for their hard work and dedication in planning this for us all.
