Greetings LC Class of 1964,
Five years ago at this time of year many of you were pondering your attendance at the 50th reunion of the Class of 1964. Thoughts of; Should I be there? … What will I wear? … Who will I see? … Do I really want to do this? … Will (so and so) remember the time that ??? Yes, all those and more! We were blessed to have a very good participation as 168 of you dared to attend and by all accounts that reunion was a great success!
Now is a new opportunity for you, especially those who didn’t make the last one, to think about participating in our 55th Reunion Celebration at Homecoming. No, it will not be the Gala of a 50th, but it will be a great time to reconnect and once again celebrate your accomplishment as a graduate of Luther College. Do you remember the excitement and pride you felt that graduation day? There’s no guarantee this coming reunion will equal that. But in attending you might be surprised by how much fun and joy is created and shared!
All these years later the LC Alumni staff are in the process of organizing a celebratory reception at 11:00 a.m., and luncheon at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 5th at Shirley Baker Commons, Baker Village. There is no cost for this event.
An evening reception, also at Baker Commons, is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with dinner immediately to follow at 6:30 p.m. for your drinking, dining and socializing pleasures following the Homecoming Football game with Central College on Saturday, October 5th. The cost per person is $30 and should be paid when your reservation is made. If you haven’t already seen the new blue turf football field it will amaze you! That alone is worth the trip to Decorah. For those who may not know some of our ‘64 classmates were very instrumental in acquiring that unique gridiron. The original blue turf football field was created for Boise State University several years ago. In fact it was so unique that they had it patented. Luther College had to secure Boise State’s permission to have the blue field. Linda and I were there for the dedication and I must say it is spectacular!
One of our classmates, Karen (Wardell) Austad has been selected to receive the Luther College Distinguished Service Award. That presentation will take place at the Alumni Dinner on Friday, October 4th in the Dahl Centennial Cafeteria. The cost per person is $30 and can be paid online when reservations are made.
The Luther College Hall of Fame Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 5th, at 5:00 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall. Reservations for these events can be made online at luther.edu/homecoming or by returning the reservation form enclosed with this Invitation.
We look forward to celebrating with you at the 55th Homecoming Reunion. Chances are good that the weather and scenery will be spectacular as usual! Make your plans now to be there! Soli Deo Gloria!
