Class of 1952 Spring 2019 Letter

Spring 2019

Dear Classmates:

I write this outside on the patio, here at Royal Oaks Life Care Community in Sun City, Arizona. Right in front is a green grass area (winter seeding) near the walking pool and the fitness center. They call this location—location.

The news from Luther students in study away programs during January Term program is indeed most interesting. It is hard to imagine that from the days in the 1950s that programs of that significance would be in the future for students. Those who take advantage are most blessed with opportunities that give them worldviews in person.

Our generation's children were offered that enhanced education. One of our sons was in Germany and another in Norway in the 80s.  Now a granddaughter spent a semester in Budapest, and a grandson is now in Dublin, associated with the Business School at the University of Wisconsin. They were/are learning of the worlds view of our United States of America.

A few of our classmates have shared experiences of their family members in study away programs and this should encourage others to write also.

Christmas at Luther was special this year, too.  I hope you had a chance to attend. The excerpts that were available to hear and view made it possible to come into our living rooms this year. Our cousins had a reunion at that time in Decorah.

Did you get acquainted with Luther's recently approved strategic plan ---Inspired. Empowered. Engaged?  The conversations with President Carlson looks toward educational experiences for the 21st century.

As you may remember from your Fall 2018 Class Agent letter, Luther has recently completed an extensive brand strategy research process.

As a result of our research and in collaboration with members of the Luther community, we have developed several statements that will guide future communications.

We know that you, our alumni, are often asked about your alma mater. What you say to prospective students and their families about Luther College can have a huge impact on their decisions to visit campus, apply and, hopefully, enroll.

You know Luther well. You matter to us and we’re interested in hearing from you.

We invite you to take a few minutes to preview some of our new statements and share your thoughts. The example statements, as well as a response survey, are available online: luther.edu/alumni/brandsurvey

Many thanks!
