Dear Class of ’50 Alums,
I am writing this letter ten days after a very special homecoming at Luther. There was spectacular fall weather. The traditional events – Hoslett lecture, Sunday worship and afternoon concert, Alumni Dinner, Saturday evening dance, and class reunions – were as good as ever. And everything was garnished with the aura of a new era (!), the inauguration of Dr. Paula J. Carlson as the college’s 10th president being the centerpiece of the weekend. The inauguration ceremony itself was the finest in my memory, with the president’s address being especially memorable. The only downer of the weekend was the football team coming back to earth with a lopsided loss to Central after beginning the season 4-0 (but those four wins marked a real turnaround).
