Confronting Pandemics: Building Culturally Responsive Education

  • Date: Wednesday, August 19, 2020
  • Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Location: Zoom

Our world is suffering the ravages of two global pandemics: the COVID-19 pandemic and the pandemic of racism and racialized violence. This workshop will address how we at Luther College are responding to the pandemic of racism and meeting our responsibility to create an inclusive campus community and equitable learning for all Luther students. The workshop will include breakout sessions and large-group discussion. Participants will be asked to generate ideas and strategies regarding their own participation as well as the role of the college in fostering racial literacy and creating inclusive excellence at Luther. We will focus on individual efforts as well as coordinated institutional efforts toward racial literacy, anti-racism, and being a student-ready college. Tools for confronting racism in our classes and on campus will be introduced.

Facilitators: Char Kunkel and David Thompson
