President, HunTel communications
Dan Hunt is a 4th generation owner of a family business headquartered in Blair, Nebraska. The company, founded in 1910, is based on the telecommunications industry and has changed and morphed as the technology has evolved. Dan grew up in the industry and joined the company after graduating from Luther in 1985. With a degree in Computer Science it was natural for him to join the company’s data processing arm where he started his work as a programmer and system administrator on an IBM mainframe computer. As PC’s became more prevalent in the workplace he implemented the company’s first Local Area Network and became a PC and networking specialist. As the Internet grew in popularity he transferred to HunTel’s telecom group and built the area’s first ISP, providing service to 16 rural Nebraska communities.
In 2007 he and his family decided to sell the Local Exchange Carrier business along with the Internet and Cable TV divisions. Choosing to keep several of his company’s smaller divisions he and his father and brother decided to retain the family’s brand “HunTel” and continue to offer telecom engineering and business telecommunications services. HunTel Engineering focuses on Fiber to the Home (FTTH) designs for independent local exchange carriers and fiber designs for corporations needing to build long-haul fiber networks. HunTel Communications is based in Omaha and provides business communications and security systems design, installation, and support services to businesses throughout the region.
Always a believer in giving back to the community, Dan has volunteered for many community organizations since leaving Luther. He currently serves on the boards of the local Boy Scouts, Hospital Foundation, and Crime Stoppers and is a member of the Blair Rotary club. Also, as a private pilot his interest in aviation recently got him elected to the local airport authority board.
Married and with two grown children and one grandchild, Dan resides in Blair, Nebraska.
