Oregon Extension: The Oregon Extension is a 17-week fall semester in southern Oregon where students from across the country live together in cabins heated with wood stoves, adventuring in the Pacific Northwest, experiencing a different way to learn—one course at a time. Step out of the normal pace of life After intensive periods of study, we all get off campus and away from assignments, to backpack in rugged mountains, relax at the Oregon Coast, explore San Francisco, or just go hiking on local trails, to reflect on things and rest up before the next course. Everything at the OE is designed to help students pick up habits of slow reading and learning without the frenzy. There is a big vegetable garden. Tending chickens, turkeys, and milking goats, cheese-making and canning are part of the experience. We read books and ask big questions like, What is nature?, What is community?, What is a sustainable world?, and What does it mean to be human?
