The Black Student Union (BSU) was established in fall 1968 by students who craved space where they could celebrate their culture and accomplishments and lift up black struggles. The alumni reunion April 25-28, 2019 is the capstone event of the yearlong celebration. We hope you will join us.

  • 10:30 a.m. -  Morning Gathering at Valders 206
    • Prologue: a performance piece of music/poetry/scenes by student performers
    • Panel Discussion: alumni and current students.
  • 12:00 p.m. - Lunch at Valders Concourse-Free Event (RSVP)

  • 1:00 p.m. - Film Screening: "Agents of Change" in Valders 206Agents of Change
    • Following the screening there will be a Q&A session with the film's co-director and co-producer, Frank Dawson, who will provide a talk-back session with the audience regarding the making and significance of a film honoring more than 50 years of Black Student Union activism on Historically White Colleges and Universities in America.

  • 3:30 p.m. - Student Research Panels in Valders 206
    • Learn about the fascinating research being done by current Luther students: Janet Irankunda '19 (Music) will share her senior project, Fadzai Teramayi '19 (Biology) will present research she did with Professor Baack, Hawi Nyiera '20 (Chemistry) will share research she did with Professor Michels, Darnelle Lyng '20 (History) presents on the cultural importance of Michael Jordan, Asha Aiden '20 (Political Science and Religion) will present her case study of environmental racism, and Siyabonga Mabuza '22 (Management/Econ) presents his research about Kuumba at Luther.

  • 5:30 p.m. - Reception in Peace Dining Room and Hammarskjold Lounge

  • 6:15 p.m. - Gala Dinner in Peace Dining Room (GALA DINNER IS SOLD OUT!)
    • Presentation of the Distinguished Service Award to Kojo Amoo-Gottfried ‘98
    • Post-dinner celebration in Peace Dining Room and Hammarskjold Lounge
