All-Luther Wrestling Reunion

Luther Wrestling Team circa 1963

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL 2022.

(Letter from Coach Dave Mitchell):

Dear Luther Wrestling Alumni and Friends:

I  hope this message finds you and your family safe at home and well. Our current Luther students are engaged in online learning at home to complete the spring semester. It seems to be going well so far, and faculty and staff have been working diligently to make the experience as robust and seamless as possible. As a wrestling team, we are having weekly team meetings on Zoom every Sunday evening. We are also holding study tables twice per week on Zoom, and our upperclassmen are organizing Zoom Social gatherings with the team each week. While it sure does not replace being on campus together, it is great to see everyone's faces!

We have also had to be creative in our training! Coach O'Gara is providing some great training challenges for our team to complete back home each week. This week's challenge is for our guys to do 500 pushups each day for five days, in addition to the normal one hour lifts they get in. Maybe you want to try it, too! You might also enjoy watching this home training video our staff put together last week.  https://youtu.be/Bfq8Wx_qeOo

Last week a group of us from Athletics met online with our Alumni and Development staff to discuss the timing of this summer's All-Luther Wrestling Reunion. With the uncertainty of when the pandemic will allow for safe travel and meetings, we have sadly come to the decision that we should postpone the All-Luther Wrestling Reunion originally scheduled for June 12-13, 2020, to Summer 2022.

In our discussion we considered a later summer date and even dates later this year, but there are still more questions than answers about what the rest of 2021 will look like. We do not want our alumni and friends to have to make the tough decision to attend or not to attend and so we felt waiting until next summer was the best option to ensure safety of all. With that being said, when we are able to gather together to celebrate 70 years of Norse Wrestling next June we will have some tremendous fellowship and a great party with multiple generations of Luther wrestlers represented. What a great celebration it will be... I cannot wait!

As of now, we are still planning on hosting our Friends of Luther Wrestling Golf Outing on Friday, August 7, 2020. Please consider playing in the event and/or sponsoring a hole!

Stay strong and stay safe. Thank you for your continued support of Luther College and Luther College Wrestling.

Train Like A Norseman!

Let's bring together all Norse wrestlers past and present for a weekend celebration and to celebrate 70 seasons of Luther College Wrestling in 2021.

Since 1951, the Norse have had 31 one-time All-Americans, 20 two-time All-Americans, seven three-time All-Americans, and two four-time All-Americans. In addition, Dan Boos '80 was an NCAA Division I All-American in 1979, and Gary Neist '69 was an Olympian in 1972. We have crowned 13 individual NCAA Division III National Champions and 11 National Runners-up. 15 Luther College teams have finished in the Top-10 in the Nation. You can check the Luther Wrestling Record Book here for more information!

We will gather in Summer 2022, for a casual evening social (Site TBA). Saturday will include optional tours of the athletic facilities, a run/walk event, or casual bike ride on the Trout Run Trail (or mountain biking with Coach O'Gara!), and opportunities for golf, canoeing and kayaking, or to explore Decorah in the afternoon on your own. On Saturday evening we will have a barbecue dinner on campus.

Contact your friends and teammates and make plans for a trip to Decorah. DO NOT miss this once-in-a-lifetime event! Spouses/significant others are welcome.
