Tamar About Me

Tamar Tedla

Year: Sophomore
Social Work and Sociology
Hometown: Saint Paul, Minnesota

What activities are you involved in outside of academics?

I am involved in SAC Concerts, SAC Cinema, SAC Events, Black Student Union, PRIDE, Choir, Vocal Jazz, Beautiful Mess, Active Minds, and I will be in the fall musical, RENT!

What do you and your friends do in your free time?

My friends and I love to jam together and make music. We also love playing cards, going on walks, and watching movies.

If someone was interested in your major, what course(s) or professor(s) would you recommend?

I am majoring in social work and sociology and I think I want to specialize in working with people with disabilities. I took an amazing course taught by Professor Row-Heyveld called Disability & Literature that allowed me to see just how poorly society portrays people who are disabled in movies, tv shows, and books.

Where’s the best place to study on campus?

I LOVE studying in Oneota. The natural lighting always makes me so happy.

What’s your go-to line in the caf when you don’t like what’s in the main line?

GRILL LINE! I love fries.

What’s your favorite Luther tradition?

I participate in choir and when Christmas time comes around, all of the choirs participate in Christmas Cheer. We all donate money to help families in need and it feel so good to help others!

What do you miss about Luther when you go home?

This may sound kind of lame, but I miss being taught! I love learning and expanding my knowledge.

What’s your favorite part about going to college at Luther?

I love how small my class sizes are. I am able to become very close to my teachers and create relationships that will help my learning experience.

What's your wackiest Luther memory?

One time last year, I was walking outside to take my trash out. As I lifted the garbage lid to dump my trash out, I heard some rustling in the large garbage bin and a VERY large squirrel scurried away. I don't think I have ever screamed louder in my ENTIRE life! I think about garbage squirrel a lot. How did he/she get so fat? What did they feed on? Can they leave?

What do you want to do after you graduate from Luther?

I really want a cat.
