About Me

Jillian Hazlett

Year: Sophomore
Major: Psychology
Hometown: Grayslake, Illinois

What activities are you involved in outside of academics?
Outside of academics, I am in PALs and ballroom dancing.  I also recently joined the Performing Arts Committee and several other student organizations I can’t wait to get involved in!

What do you and your friends do in your free time?
In our free time, my friends and I walk around downtown, watch movies, or just hang out.

If someone was interested in your major, what course(s) or professor(s) would you recommend?
I would definitely recommend taking Developmental Psychology with Professor Njus. It’s a great class – so interesting, with a great professor!

Where's the best place to study on campus?
My favorite study spot is on the second floor of the library by the window. It’s nice and quiet, and there’s a great view of campus!

What’s your go-to line in the caf when you don’t like what’s in the main line?
I love the vegetarian and Simple Servings lines – there’s always something delicious there!

What’s your favorite Luther tradition? (Homecoming parade, Septembertime, Christmas at Luther, Whippy Dip, Luther cheer, etc.)
So far, my favorite tradition is Jim Wand’s annual hypnotism show at the outset of every fall semester.  Jim Wand has been performing at Luther for thirty years, and his show never fails to make me laugh.

What advice would you give to a new Luther student?
Advice I would give to a new student would be to talk to professors during their office hours. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and get to know your professors better.

What do you miss about Luther when you go home?
When I go home, I miss the view of the bluffs from the Caf, being able to walk everywhere I go, and seeing all the marvelous people.

What's your craziest wackiest Luther memory?
During my freshman year, I was approached on the sidewalk by a guy doing a shockingly accurate impression of Smeagol from Lord of the Rings.

What do you want to do after you graduate from Luther?
I don’t know exactly what I want to do after I graduate from Luther. Definitely something awesome, if possible.  :)
