Over most of fall break, I went camping in Illinois with my boyfriend, Dillon, and his family. It’s their big family event that they have every year, and it was my first camping experience!
We got there last Friday afternoon, and we left on Sunday morning. The campout was at Dillon's aunt and uncle's place, and we set up our tents on some of their 100 acres of land. After we arrived, we explored a bit. It's a pretty area, but it can't beat Decorah! ;) Later that night, we cooked hamburgers over the fire—delicious!
Dillon's uncle has his own pottery studio near their home in Illinois, so on Saturday we got to see some of the pieces he'd been working on. Then, we each got to pick a little bowl to glaze and he fired them later that day. That was super fun, and the bowls turned out beautifully. Later in the afternoon, it was so hot—almost 90 degrees! Dillon and I decided to go see the new Kingsman movie, and it was so good! I definitely recommend it.
On Sunday morning, after being up a lot of the night from a storm (or maybe that was only me), we left pretty early. We stopped at Golden Corral for breakfast with Dillon's brother and his fiancee, before beginning the long trek back to Iowa. I'd say my first camping experience was pretty fun! I still don't consider myself that much of an "outdoorsy" person, though. ;)
The other highlight of fall break was visiting my friend Amanda at Iowa State University, with my other friend, Lexie. It was AWESOME getting to see them again! We always have so much fun when we get to see each other—even if only for a short time. They treated me to an early birthday dinner at Hickory Park, which is the place to eat at if you're in Ames. It was so nice of them, and the food was delicious.
I came back to Luther on Tuesday, and classes and everything else resumed as usual on Wednesday. Break was quite nice, but now it's definitely back to the grind! I'm already looking forward to Thanksgiving break. :)
