Hope over Hate

In response to the hateful message that was stomped in the snow on the football field a few weeks ago, a few Luther students decided to stomp a more inclusive and hopeful message of hope.

Here Comes the Sun

Here in Decorah, Iowa, the snow is finally melting and the sun is beginning to shine more consistently. The nice weather we have been having has been motivating students to be outside more often. There are a variety of enjoyable outdoor activities you can participate in on and off campus.

1440 Musical

Putting on any musical is a very elaborate project. You usually get at least a few weeks to make the production happen. However, the rules change when you only have 24 hours to produce a show.

Do What You Love but Don’t Do It All

Having the strong desire to always be involved can be a blessing and a curse. Being on a campus like Luther, where opportunities to be involved are always available, it is difficult to have any free time. However, making time for yourself and choosing what matters the most to you will allow you to feel less overwhelmed with what you do during your time at Luther.

My January Term

To fulfill a requirement for my social work major, I spend my January shadowing a licensed social worker at an agency of my choice. I chose a place called Southside Services, a facility that provides helpful services for people with cognitive and other developmental disabilities.

Christmas at Luther

Christmas at Luther has always been my favorite time of the year. I love getting the chance to perform with the other choirs along with the orchestra. Although the rehearsal process is tedious and tiresome, the end production is always worth the trouble.

Thanksgiving Break

After a crazy couple of weeks filled with rehearsals and loads of schoolwork, a break was what I needed the most. My mind needed a good meal and a couple of days to relax. Not only did I get to eat some of my favorite foods, I got to spend quality time with my family.

Make New Friends but Keep the Old

When I was in Girl Scouts, we use to always sing this song called “Make New Friends.” This short song focuses on maintaining old friendships while making new ones. As a child, I did not realize just how difficult that would be. While these lyrics are easier sang than done, this past weekend showed me just how important these simple words really meant.

Halloweekend

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Who doesn’t love getting all dressed up and getting free candy? The only problem was Halloween only lasted a day for me when I was growing up. Once I entered college, everything changed. Halloween is a multiple day event here at Luther! From last Friday to Monday, I was able to dress up and receive candy for DAYS!

My Favorite Study Place

Recently, I have been on the hunt for a good place to study on campus. I usually settle for the study lounge in the resident hall I am living in, but I wanted a change in scenery. I spend the last week studying in various locations on campus. Although every location I attended was satisfactory, one place in particular stood out to me.

Fall Breaking News

This past break was filled with many discoveries. The best discovery I made was McDonald’s crispy buttermilk tenders. As an McDonald’s enthusiast, I was pleased to hear about their new menu item. I was even more pleased to taste how delicious my discovery was. Unfortunately, not all discoveries are as delicious. Arriving home made me realize just how good I was at pretending to feel okay and how bad it made me feel to do it. I later discovered that many of my friends struggled with the same issue.
