“Diversity here at Luther invites not only those of color, but everyone to be a part of something greater!”

Hey! My name is Angelique Rivera and I am a current junior here at Luther. I am originally from Chicago, so coming here was definitely a major culture-shock. I decided to come to Luther mainly because of how accepting and welcoming the campus and the community made me feel. I didn’t think it was real for a place to be so nice and generous without knowing me personally.

Being a minority and coming from such a different place allowed me to open my mind to the many things that are out there and the many things I can become through being a Luther student. Being hispanic in a predominately white campus felt intimidating at first, but I grew to understand my culture more and invited others to know what it is to come from a low-income family and being the first child to head of to college.

I am beyond excited to be a diversity ambassador to not only highlight my experiences of being here but also to connect with others who felt the same as I when searching for colleges. Diversity here at Luther invites not only those of color, but everyone to be a part of something greater! Being a part of what diversity means here on campus is making sure that everyone, whether it is a student or a staff member, can be involved in anything and can really be their true self without judgement. Luther became my second home, and I hope it will become home to many others in their college-searching journey!
