“Diversity helps students to grow and learn and that’s what I hope to do in Luther’s supportive community over the next few years.”

When I was first looking at colleges, Luther was at the bottom of my list. I grew up in Decorah so I thought I needed to leave my hometown to be able to experience something new. I wanted to meet people from backgrounds, cultures, and communities different from my own. Eventually, knowing I would have professors that care about their students and who wish for them to be successful in life, as well as the sense of a welcoming community on campus, led me to choose Luther. Since I've been at Luther, I have never once regretted my decision. I now realize that even though I am still in my hometown of Decorah, IA, I am surrounded by a whole new world of people in every way. I am surrounded by people from cities and rural areas. I am surrounded by people with ways of thinking very similar yet very different from my own. I am surrounded by people from California to Lebanon to Brazil. Everyday I learn something new. I believe having all kinds of diversity on a college campus is just as crucial as having courses that will challenge students to be the best version of themselves. Diversity helps students to grow and learn and that’s what I hope to do in Luther’s supportive community over the next few years.
