“Diversity at Luther is something that everyone here benefits from, not just as a student, but also as a human being.”
When I decided to come to Luther, I was absolutely terrified that the school and Decorah were too small. But, from the second I moved in, those fears have been disproved every single day. The breadth in diversity of people on campus does not mirror that of a small school. I have never before been in an environment where I have felt so comfortable with being who I am and sharing that with other people. The wide range of experiences from each of the students here, provides a type of learning that you can not receive in a classroom. Diversity at Luther is something that everyone here benefits from, not just as a student, but also as a human being. The biggest favor I have done for myself since starting college, is sitting down with people and listening to their stories. Learning from all of the people on campus, especially those who I have next to nothing in common with on the surface, is something that I do not think I would get anywhere else. That is why I am so excited to be serving as a Diversity Ambassador!
Luther has given me so many opportunities in my time here (which really has not been that long!) that I am so thankful for. I am challenged every day to be a better friend, student, thinker, musician and human being. I love that I can remain in choir and do what I love, all while working toward a career in political activism, and while participating in activities where I feel comfortable, such as PRIDE and The Vagina Monologues. There is no place like Luther!
