How do we help students synthesize, integrate, and apply what they are learning at Luther College? One promising approach is for students to participate in multiple high-impact practices during their studies. One such practice that is demonstrably effective in helping students integrate and deepen their learning is a learning community. Is it possible to reimagine Luther College as a learning community? What would it take to redesign the Luther experience so that it manifested the conditions that are characteristic of a learning community? What would we have to do differently for Luther to be a place where all students are challenged and supported to achieve at high levels, take intellectual and social risks, think systematically about their learning, and demonstrate that they can use what they know productively? LC2=Luther College is a learning community. This two-day workshop for faculty and staff facilitated by George Kuh, education expert and regent emeritus, is an initial concrete step toward sketching actionable approaches for realizing this aspiration. Lunch will be provided on the first day, and faculty participants will receive a $100 stipend.
