On the Verge focuses on the adventures of three Victorian women trekking through time, wondering about the present even as they find themselves uncovering relics and artifacts of the future. Their journey begins in 1888 with every encounter or discovery moving them on toward 1955. A gorge troll, Mr. Coffee, and cool whip are a few of the elements comprising their interaction with "terra incognita".
A New York Times critic, writing of the premiere of the play in 1988, called it "A frolicsome jaunt through a continuum of space, time, history, geography, feminism, and fashion."
