Director's Notes

Every year, Ariadne has watched fourteen young men and women enter the labyrinth as sacrifice to the Minotaur, horrified, but unable to act. This year, Theseus enters Crete as part of the tribute, and Ariadne finds the courage to demand from her father, King Minos, that he spare the lives of this year's fourteen. But she instead discovers that deep in the labyrinth, there are secrets and terrors more horrible than monsters. Hella Haasse's A Thread in the Dark is the story of an individual challenging gods, heroes, myths, and monsters in her pursuit of truth.
