Incoming first-year students are surveyed each year (using the CIRP Freshman Survey) to learn why they chose to attend Luther.

The most recent survey identifies the reasons given by first-year students in selecting Luther. Listed below are the five most frequently cited reasons. The percentages reflect the proportion of students who identified the specific influence as "very important."

The survey covers a wide range of student characteristics; parental income and education, ethnicity, and other demographic items; financial aid, secondary school achievement and activities; educational and career plans; and values, attitudes, beliefs, and self-concept.
