Upward Bound

What is Upward Bound?
Luther College Upward Bound engages high school students who are either low income, have parents who have not completed a four-year college degree, or have parents who are in underemployed situations. The Program provides support in the creation of a positive learning attitude ensuring academic success in high school, college, and life. Consistent with the mission of Luther College, we are committed to a way of learning that moves us beyond the immediate interests and present knowledge into a larger world--an education that disciplines minds and develops whole persons equipped to understand and confront a changing society.
It is broken into two components*:
| Six Week Summer Program - Approx. 2 ½ weeks - 4th of July Break - Approx. 2 ½ weeks - Visitors' Day- Big City Trip (about 3 days) |
Academic Year - Weekly Contact - Tutoring - Weekend Workshops - Cultural Events |
*Please note that Upward Bound students who are accepted into the summer program are automatically participants in the academic year. Although the Upward Bound Program has these two basic components, it is actually a single year-long program for all students.
