Center for Sustainable Communities

In January 2013, Luther College launched its Center for Sustainable Communities, the latest step in Luther’s sustainability journey.

The Center for Sustainable Communities will serve as a coordinating entity for campus sustainability efforts and will develop and implement a vision for Luther to be more actively involved in promoting sustainability throughout the region.

The center's work will focus on its primary program areas of food and wellness, energy and climate, education and outreach, and land stewardship.   As Luther launches this new initiative it is reaching out to the community to assess needs and gather ideas for ways that Luther College can best support sustainability efforts throughout Northeast Iowa.  Please check back for more information as we shape up the vision for this new Center.

  • Community Leadership Seminar

This interactive workshop, hosted in the spring, is designed for leaders in Northeast Iowa who display a keen interest in improving their community and promoting a positive change in overall community health.
  • Internships

In collaboration with community partners, Luther offers a wide range of internships during the summer to provide students with hands-on sustainability experience.
  • Community Partners

When it comes to fostering sustainable communities, we are grateful for the partnerships that make much of this great work possible.
