  • USDA's REAP program awards Luther grant, loan for wind turbine project

    Tom Vilsack, U.S. Agriculture Secretary, has announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program will award Luther College Wind Energy Project, LLC, a $500,000 grant and a $1,302,385 loan to fund the installation of a 1.65 MW wind turbine that is expected to generate about one-third of the electrical energy consumed by the college each year.   Read more...

  • Luther College bikeshare program promotes alternative transportation

  • Luther produces biodiesel for sustainability

    Hungry students at Luther College are contributing to sustainable college operations, one deep-fried chicken strip at a time.

    Luther is converting waste vegetable cooking oils from its Food Service operations into biodiesel as fuel for powering Facilities Services grounds crews’ utility vehicles. Instead of paying to dispose of cafeteria fryer oil as a waste product, Luther staff member Kevin Ellingson uses it to brew a cleaner alternative fuel.   Read more...

  • Luther senior Cerbin invited to attend ninth annual Food and Society Gathering 2009

    A Luther College senior will meet with agricultural industry leaders from sharecropping to shipping, at an international conference in April.

    Flannery Cerbin is one of a select group of undergraduate college students invited to attend the Food and Society 2009 conference April 21-23 in San Jose Calif. She will have the opportunity to work with internationally known experts in food production and distribution to identify ways to improve the nation’s economy, environment, and society through Good Food Systems that provide healthy, green, fair and affordable food.   Read more...

  • Luther vs. Wartburg: ‘Energy Challenge’ ends in a ‘split’
