Iowa State University Extension and Outreach (ISUEO) in Wapello County is looking for a program coordinator that will provide leadership for the Produce with a Purpose local food program. The successful candidate will be organized, have the ability to think quickly and solve problems, demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision, and have the ability to communicate with local producers, community partners, and staff. Must be willing to work a flexible weekday schedule. Wage is $14 per hour, up to 35 hours per week, from mid-March through the end of October. JOB DESCRIPTION- Food Box Program Coordinator


I. NATURE AND REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: This position assists the Local Food Coordinator, Wapello County Extension Council, and the Regional Extension Education Director with the organization, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of the Produce with a Purpose local food delivery program. The position requires knowledge of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, county policies, skills in written and oral communication, the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to unexpected changes, effective decision making and planning skills.


II. QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: • Educational background in agriculture, community food systems, and food production preferred • Excellent written and oral communication and mental math skills • High school diploma • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation • Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program • Ability to work with minimal supervision from professional staff & supervise volunteers • Ability to speak Russian or Spanish preferred.


III. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES: • Assist Local Food Coordinator with coordination of all components of the food box delivery program • Coordinate pick ups and deliveries of fresh produce from farms, sorting, packaging, labeling and delivery of produce to participating sites • Develop relationships with producers and delivery site coordinators through face to face visits, phone calls and emails • Advertise the program at local delivery sites and to the public through newspapers, radio, and social media. • Write and design educational newsletters to be distributed with food box deliveries • Assist with maintenance and promotion of program website, county extension website, and county social media • Assist with planning and facilitation of producer meetings, on-site farm visits, and producer and consumer education activities.


IV. DEMANDS OF POSITION: • This position is part time, 35 hours per week, and seasonal, from mid-March through the end of October. Hourly wage starts at $14 per hour, with the potential to increase.
