The Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative works to make the healthy choice the easy choice for Northeast Iowans. Since schools are the hubs of rural communities, the majority of the initiative’s work takes place within 18 rural school districts. School isn’t in session in the summer, but there is plenty of work to do. Food and Fitness seeks an intern with a passion for early childhood education, public health and parent education. Potential projects and programs include: assisting with the development of a new outdoor play area, planning Farm to Preschool initiatives for the 2014-2015 year, planning and hosting parent nights and grocery store tours.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently

Qualifications

  • Enrollment at Luther College
  • Strong interest in sustainability
  • Team-minded orientation
  • Positive attitude
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
