Winter Bike Storage

Thursday, Nov. 21st and Friday, Nov. 22nd 2013
3 - 6 p.m. at the rear (east) entrance of the Ashmore-Jewell Barn

To help promote the use of bicycles as an alternative form of transportation, Luther offers free winter storage for bicycles. Bicycle storage is free for Luther students and staff.

Bicycles will be placed in secure, dry storage in the Ashmore-Jewell Barn (the red barn next to Baker Village.) The barn will be open Nov. 21 and 22 from 3-6 p.m. to accept bikes. The bikes will be locked together and placed in storage by college personnel. These will be the only two days that we will accept bikes for winter storage. A $10 fee will be issued for storing your bike outside of the 21st and 22nd of November.

Please note that bikes can be taken out of winter storage on only three dates:

  • Dec. 14, 2013 (Reading Day)
  • Two additional days in the spring to be determined.

If you are interested in placing your bike in winter storage, please bring your bike to the rear (east) entrance of the Ashmore-Jewell Barn on Nov. 21 or 22 from 3-6 p.m.

All bikes must be registered to be put into storage. Registration can be done online or in person when you bring your bike. Registering a bike puts its serial number into a national database, making it easier to find stolen bikes.

If you have questions, please contact Sustainability at livesimply@luther.edu.

During Thanksgiving Break, the following bike racks will be removed to prepare the campus for snow removal:

  • Farwell Bridge
  • Larsen/Olson parking lot
  • South side of the Union

Any bikes locked to those racks or any handrails, signs, posts, sidewalks, and trees around campus will be cut off and taken into possession by the college. A $25 fine will be assessed if this happens.
