Biomass Boiler

Luther College commissioned a feasibility study for a biomass boiler from Sebesta Blomberg, an engineering firm located in Roseville, Minnesota.  The study was completed in May 2008 and focused on a wood-fired boiler that would produce approximately 62 percent of the college's annual heating load. Recent decreases in natural gas prices have changed the economic payback of the project.  Wood chip supply, pricing, and material handling are issues which the college wants to study further.
