Campus Policies

Energy Star Policy

The Energy Star Policy policy provides information regarding the purchase of new appliances. All appliances must have an Energy Star certification unless a non-Energy Star appliance meets the needs and consumes less energy or it must be fiscally prohibitive to buy.

Green Building Policy

The Green Building Policy policy states that all future construction on campus must follow LEED silver standards. A LEED checklist will be used when performing any renovations on campus.

Green Cleaning Policy

The Green Cleaning Policy affirms and formalizes the green cleaning practices in place at Luther College. It requires that when procuring cleaning products, Luther and its contractors will purchase products certified or recommended by Green Seal or the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) or another independent environmental certification organization.

Paper Purchasing Policy

The Paper Purchasing Policy requires all paper purchased and used by the College in the Document Center, Book Shop, and all departments and offices to be FSC-certified white, 8.5 x 11 inch, 20# copier paper made with at least 50% post-consumer fiber. This policy will assist in reducing the campus' overall carbon footprint by 50% by 2015, a goal outlined in the five year strategic plan.

Snow Removal Policy

The Snow Removal Policy outlines the procedure for removing snow from sidewalks and roads in the safest, most efficient and environmentally responsible manner possible as well as to protect turf grass around hard surfaces.
