About » Sustainability

Sustainability Home

At Luther, we believe that sustainable thinking is a tool for examining complex modern crises. We enact sustainability by greening our campus operations, reaching out to support our local cities and businesses, and teaching students through academic courses and campus life that creating a sustainable society is the responsibility of each of us.

On this site you will find information about campus sustainability initiatives, outreach into Northeast Iowa and personal actions that you can take towards a sustainable life. Join our e-mail list if you are interested in occasional updates or opportunities to become more involved in sustainability at Luther.  Please contact us with your thoughts, ideas, and dreams through our Suggestion Box!

Compost Audit Results
Half-eaten pizza.  Left-over rice.  A brown napkin and potato peelings.  Four Luther students are rifling through food waste from the cafeteria, not dumpster diving, but participating in Luther’s first-ever compost audit.

Luther Shuttle Service Survey
An Environmental Philosophy class group project is looking into establishing a shuttle system that would take students around town and expand the current shuttle to Rochester and Minneapolis to nearby big cities like Chicago. Help determine the demand for such a service by taking this survey.

Luther Car Sharing Program Survey
Does Luther need a car sharing program?  If one was offered, would you use it?  We're looking to students, faculty, staff, prospective students and community members to help us make this decision by filling out a quick survey.
