2010-11 Programs

RAVE: Pulse: Feel the Beat event: October 22, 2010: Residents of Dieseth and Miller Hall danced to the beat of the professional DJ as they raised money for an AED in their halls. They provided such activities as a "Vicky Jaeger Bomb" drink, a rootbeer pong tournament and other fun events. Co-sponsored by Wellness.

River Walk: August 29, 2010: First year students walked along the Upper Iowa River and met six "live" scenes from their Paideia book Oneota Flow.

Buckthorn Blitz: August 30, 2010: First year students served in their first service project of their college career as they traveled to Phelps Park and Baker Village to help eradicate the invasive Buckthorne plant. Three hundred students at a time worked to cut, dig and pile the plants.

Skating Party: September 24, 2010. Larsen/Olson Halls co-sponsored with Wellness to host a free roller skating party at Jewell Skate Country. Freewill donations were accepted as the halls hope to raise enough funds to purchase an AED for their residence halls. Over 300 participants for an evening of fun and $280 was raised.

Adventure Race: October 2, 2010. 75 participants in the bike/canoe/run race. Co-sponsored with APO service fraternity.

Fit and Well Classes: Every student at Luther is expected to take the Fit and Well Class during their college terms. This is a seven week class which touches on the seven dimensions of wellness. This year's students are reading from the book, College of the Overwhelmed.

Wellness Checks: All employees of Luther College are asked to have a well-check physical, blood screening and fill out a Health Risk Assessment every two years. This year's employees will not see an increase of $25 per paycheck if they follow these well-check requirements.

Challenge Course: Luther has their own challenge course, donated by an alum, Jeff Boike. Groups are currently using the course for team leadership and communication. Fee involved.

Holiday Lights and Magical Nights: November. Wellness Floors helped put up the display at the Decorah Campground The Christmas lights displayed was open to the public from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.

BOMB: January 22, 2011.

 Dance in Regent's Center: February, 2011. 

Fish Fry: April 15, 2011. Co-sponsored with Sodeko, Luther held a fish fry for all students as well as games on a Friday afternoon to celebrate spring.

Blood Drive: February, 2011: Co-sponsored with APO. Blood drive was held in Brunsdale Lounge.

Roller Skating Party - April 30, 2011: Olson/Larsen Halls. After a successful fall wellness activity, we again reserved the roller skating rink and gave students rides out for an evening of fun.

Bike to Work Week: May 16-20, 2011: Ride your bike to work and enjoy a snack on us. Free muffin or breakfast pastry on Tuesday or Thursday from 7:30-10:00 a.m. in Oneota Market. On Monday/Wednesday/Friday, enjoy a free fruit and yogurt smoothie in Marty's from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Must bring your helmet to claim your snack.
