Cocurricular Activities Fee (CAF)
Benefits
Purchasing the 2009-10 Co-Curricular Activities Fee (CAF) allows you the opportunity to attend events sponsored by the Student Activities Council (SAC) and the Performing Arts Committee (PAC) free of charge. In addition, CAF holders receive a free copy of Luther’s Pioneer yearbook.
Students who purchased the CAF have been fortunate to attend a host of great SAC events in recent years including performances by these nationally known recording artists: Ben Folds, Ok Go, Guster, Jack's Mannequin, Tim Mahoney, Scratch Track, Magdalen Hsu-Li, Four Shadow, John Rush, Treologic, The Nadas, Jon McLaughlin, and Shevy Smith. In addition to concerts, SAC regularly programs other campus entertainment. Examples include: ComedySportz, Dr. Jim Wand, hypnotist, and Pete Lee, comedian; as well as Christmas in the Union, Soda Shoppe, Halloween Dance, and SAC Fest. The fee also covers admission to formal dances, including SAC Homecoming’s Flamingo Ball. The Diversity Center and SAC co-sponsored artists such as musicians Orquesta Alto Maiz and a Maasai group from Tanzania. SAC Cinema sponsors a monthly movie night at Decorah's Viking Theater.
The Center Stage Series of fine arts events presented by PAC, are always nationally and internationally known artists. PAC has proudly presented the following performances in past seasons: Capitol Steps, Lakota Sioux Indian Dance, Jitro Girls Choir, The Mikado, Diavolo, and the Harlem Gospel Choir.
Students who purchase the CAF will realize significant savings. If students attended a good number of SAC and PAC sponsored activities without a CAF , they would have easily spent over $400.00. More than ninety percent of the 2008-09 student body purchased the CAF knowing it would result in saving them money.
Costs and Policies
For the 2009-10 academic year, all full-time students except those studying abroad will be charged $180 for the CAF. A one semester CAF ($90.00) is only available for those participating in student teaching, internships, or study abroad.
If you do NOT wish to purchase the CAF for the entire year, or for just one semester because of off-campus study, you must sign and return the bottom portion of the CAF form to the Office for Financial Services by August 10, 2009.
ONLY RETURN THE FORM IF YOU WISH TO WAIVE ANY PORTION OF THE CAF FEE. If you wish to waive the CAF fee for one semester or the entire year, but still want to order a Pioneer yearbook, please check the appropriate box on the form. For first-year students, the CAF forms are included in your admissions packet sent to you prior to the beginning of the school year. Returning students can pick up a form at the Office of Financial Services or download a copy here: http://www.luther.edu/contact/administrative/financialservices/forms
If you decide to purchase the CAF, it is not necessary to return the form. Your Luther ID card will be electronically activated. Student IDs must be presented at sponsored activities and CAF tickets are non-transferable. (Remember--the Pioneer yearbook is included in your purchase of CAF for the entire year).
