Baker Village
Baker Village offers upperclass Luther students Scandinavian-style architecture set at the nexus of a rustic farm park area, a flowering prairie, and a lush wooded area. Baker Village is named after Jeffery D. Baker, the eighth president of Luther College (1996-1999) and incorporates several environmentally responsible features, including geothermal heating and cooling, compact flourescent bulbs throughout, low-flow shower and faucet heads, low-flush toilets, and landscaping restored to prairie meadows.
The residential area of twenty townhouse-style units in four buildings, as well as the Shirley Baker Commons (named after President Baker“s wife), opened in 1999. The remaining units included in the original plan (an additional six buildings and 150 beds) will be completed as the need arises.
Baker Village currently offers three styles of units, housing a total of 100 senior students. Eligible students have earned 72 or more credits by the January Term of their junior year and are not on social probation.
