Prohibited Room Possessions
For various health and safety reasons, many items are prohibited in Luther College residence halls. The following lists indicate some of the more popular prohibited, restricted, and permissible room appliances. If you have questions, please contact the Residence Life Office.
Prohibited items include (but may not be limited to):
- Candles or incense
- Halogen lamps
- Flammable substances such as gasoline and cleaning fluids
- Motorized vehicles such as motorcycles and mopeds
- Live Christmas trees and other live holiday greenery
- Pets (except fish; no piranhas)
- Alcohol (if you're under 21) and alcoholic containers for "display"
- Fireworks and other explosives
- Firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows, slingshots, large knives, dangerous martial arts equipment, and other potentially hazardous items
- Cigarettes, cigars, or other smoking paraphernalia
The following appliances are also prohibited
(all appliances must be U.L. listed):
- Desktop burners with open grills or coils
- Toasters and toaster ovens
- Microwaves (each hall is equipped with at least one microwave for student use)
- Air conditioners
- George Foreman grills
Popular permissible items include:
- Popcorn poppers
- Coffee makers
- Hot pots
- Fans
- Electric potpourri burners
- Refrigerators that are less than 2.8 cubic feet in capacity (only one refrigerator per every three residents in a room is permitted)
- Lamps (halogen lamps are not permitted)
