Alumni Externship Program
The Alumni Externship Program is designed to connect Luther students in their first-year, sophomore, or junior year with alumni working in career fields and professions of interest to them.
Students will be matched with an alumnus for 1 to 3 days of observing, learning, touring, and information interviewing. The following information should help you learn more about how to apply and address other questions you have. As always, if you have questions, please call the Career Center at 563-387-1025.
Who is eligible?
- Currently enrolled Luther College first-year, sophomore, and junior students are eligible.
Dates and deadlines
- The Alumni Externship Program will take place during Fall Break 2007 (October 22-24, 2007). To be fully considered for this session, students must submit their applications to the Career Center by April 5, 2007.
How to apply
- Research and carefully consider your career interests. To find the best possible match for you, the Alumni Extern Program staff needs to know your specific career interests.
- Submit a completed Extern Program application form with an updated resume to the Career Center by the appropriate deadline. The Career Center is located on the second floor of the Dahl Centennial Union.
What happens next
- The Alumni Extern Program staff search for an appropriate alumni host for you.
- You should learn of your externship placement by May 4, 2007.
Student responsibility
- Attend a one-hour orientation session prior to your extern experience
- Establish and maintain contact with host once placement has been determined
- Collaboratively develop goals for the experience with alumni host
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner for the duration of the experience
- Pay for travel expenses to and from the externship site
- Be prepared to pay for meals and other expenses during the experience
