Career Center Staff

Virginia Hanson, Program Assistant (Part-time)

Virginia became part of the Career Center in April 1991. Born and raised in Waukon, Iowa, Virginia and her husband enjoy their close proximity to family who are spread across Iowa. Virginia is primarily responsible for entering full-time, internship, and other vacancies into the on-line career management system, CareerConnection. In addition to her role at Luther, Virginia also works part-time at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church here in Decorah.

Lynn Ingvalson, Program Assistant

Lynn joined the Career Center in July 2004. As a native to the Decorah community, she and her family enjoy the many blessings that Northeast Iowa has to offer (canoeing, tubing, biking, and camping). As the center's full-time Program Assistant, Lynn is the primary point of contact for individuals who call and visit the Career Center. Lynn also manages the Career Center's web site and oversees the Credential File program.

Carol Johnston, Assistant Director of Career Development

Carol joined the Career Center staff in 1998 after working for 12 years in Student Support Services here at Luther. In her position, Carol oversees the career exploration programming coordinated in the Career Center. Furthermore, she works one-on-one with students who are undecided about their career direction, or are uncertain as to what career possibilities exist given their interests, skills, values, and priorities. She is a certified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII). Carol holds a bachelor's degree from University of Wisconsin-Platteville and a master's degree from Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Mark Peltz, Assistant Dean for Student Life/Director of the Career Center

Mark joined the Career Center staff in July 2003. As a native Iowan, Mark and his family returned to the Midwest after spending time in Florida and Ohio. As director, Mark is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Career Center including career counseling; strategic planning; budget management; supervision; assessment; and employer development. As assistant dean, Mark coordinates the Student Life Division's assessment initiatives. Mark holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a master's degree from Miami University (OH).

Jim Arthur, Assistant Director of Experiential Learning

Jim began his work in the Career Center in July 2006. Prior to coming to Luther College, Jim served as the director of the career development office at Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa. Jim brings to Luther an abundance of experience in career counseling, internship advising, and employer development. Jim holds a bachelor's degree from Carthage College, a master's degree from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and a doctorate from Iowa State University.

Joni Rollinger, Employer Relations Coordinator

Joni joined the Career Center in 1984 and serves as the primary point of contact for all organizations wishing to recruit Luther students. In addition to working one-on-one with both large and small corporations, non-profits, summer camps, and universities, Joni oversees the Mock Interview Program and the Sophomore Shadow Program. In her spare time, Joni can be found "on the go" with her family.
