What’s on his iPod: “I’m a fan of all kinds of music,” he says. “Some of my favorites include hip/hop, rap, R&B, reggae, and alternative rock.”
Favorite campus activity: Playing football in Carlson Stadium on Saturday afternoons in the fall. (Obi plays defensive end.)
Career aspiration: To become an orthopedic surgeon.
“With my experience in football and interest in sports medicine, I feel that becoming an orthopedic surgeon makes perfect sense,” he says. “Plus, I recently took a job as an orderly and found it really provided a valuable perspective of what the work environment is like.”
While academics plays a critical role in preparing for his upcoming career, Obi also feels his time at Luther should be spent developing his personal interests.
“I like to participate in a variety of activities because I think it’s good to have a balance,” he says. In addition to playing football for the Norse, he participates in PALS (Luther’s mentoring program), SAC (Student Activities Council) concert committee, and diversity center events.
Looking back on his experience, Obi feels that one simple event can give a prospective student a really good taste of what Luther has to offer. He says, “Do a campus visit. You’ll find the mix of what Luther has to offer very appealing.”
