The 2014 Capital One Division III Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), has been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
Clare Slagel, a 2012 graduate of Hempstead High School, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 First-Team. District 8 is comprised of 20 states (Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming) and Canada.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Slagle is a five-time NCAA III All-American who became Luther’s first national champion this year capturing the title in the 200 Backstroke. She has earned All-American honors twice in this event and twice in the 100 backstroke. She also swam the anchor leg of Luther’s All-American 200 Medley Relay that placed seventh at the national finale this year.
Slagle is an Biology major who has accumulated a grade point average of 3.85. She is the daughter of Daniel and Karen Slagel of Dubuque, Iowa.
