The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced that Luther College student-athletes Lexi Scharmer and Clare Slagel have been named to the 2014 CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.
This award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.
Slagel, who qualified for the NCAA III National Swimming & Diving Championships in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes for the second year in a row, earned All-America honors in both events. Slagel claimed Luther’s first individual national championship in the 200 backstroke and placed third in the 100 backstroke.
Slagel and Scharmer also earned All-America honors along with Erin Connolly and Emily Anderson in the 200 medley relay that placed seventh. This foursome also qualified in the 400 medley relay and earned honorable mention All-America honors placing tenth overall.
