Lance Huber

Head Men's & Women's Swim Coach

  • 14th year as head coach
  • During his tenure the Luther women and men have combined to record nine All-American and 14 honorable mention All-American honors. Last year (2014) Clare Slagel '16 captured Luther's first individual national title in the 200 backstroke
  • Named Liberal Arts Championships Coach of the Year for women nine times (2005-08, 2010-14)
  • In 2014, the Norse claimed a eighth consecutive Liberal Arts Championships title and 10th in school history, the first coming in 1999.
  • In 2014 the women finished 14th at the NCAA III National Championships and in 2008 finished 11th
  • Joined Luther after two years as head coach at Cumberland College, where he coached 46 NAIA All-Americans.
  • Earned 12 NCAA Division II All-American honors while competing for the University of South Dakota

Bethany Nicoll

Assistant Coach

  • 2010 graduate of Luther College
  • Second year as an assistant coach
  • Four-year letter winner for the Norse
  • Two-time all-conference performer in the 200 IM and once in the 400 IM
  • Three-time all-conference performer in the 200 freestyle relay
  • Two-time all-conference performer in the 400 freestyle relay
  • Member of Luther swimming 800-plus point club
  • Named Most Inspirational and Hardest Worker during her career
  • Also served as a co-captain as a senior

 

Dave Happel

Diving Coach

  • 1961 graduate of Valparaiso University
  • 1964 JD Degree, School of Law, Valparaiso University
  • 17th year at Luther College.
  • Named Iowa Conference Diving Coach of the Year in 2007
  • Named Liberal Arts Championship Diving Coach of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2014
  • Has coached seven Norse divers who captured 13 Iowa Conference one-meter championships; six divers who captured 10 Iowa Conference three-meter titles; five divers who claimed 13 Liberal Arts championships; three divers who have qualified for NCAA III Regional competition; and seven divers who have posted NCAA III national qualifying standards in both 1-meter and 3-meter events
  • Since 1958 he has been the Head Diving Coach at Vinton Aquatic Club. During his tenure, he has coached three divers who qualified and participated in USA Diving National Jr. Championships. Has also coached eight divers who qualified and participated in USA Diving National West Jr. Spring Championships, as well as numerous divers who have placed and won regional championships
  • While coaching at Porter County YMCA, Valparaiso, Ind., he coached one national champion in Y National Meet held in Iowa City
  • From 1981-87 served as diving coach at Washington High School, Vinton, Iowa
