The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced that senior Amanda Witzlib has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 30. This is the seventh time of her career she has been so honored. This honor also marks the first time in school history that three pitchers on the staff have been named IIAC Pitcher of the Week in the same year.
Witzlib, the 2015 and 2016 Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Year, has battled back from injury that has kept her out of the regular line-up and picked up her first win and save of the season this past week.
She was credited with the save during Luther's 3-2 victory over Wartburg, giving up three hits and not allowing a run and striking out two in three innings of work.
She took over in the middle of the third against Simpson, the final game of the year, and struck out eight of the 14 batters she faced helping Luther to a 7-4 victory and her first win of the year.
In 7.2 innings pitched last week, she allowed four hits, struck out 10 of 24 batters faced, and did not issue a walk.
Luther claimed its third consecutive Iowa Conference championship posting a record of 15-1. The Norse are 37-3 overall.
