Kelsey Rose Named NFCA Third Team All-American

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announce the 46 players chosen for the 2014 NFCA Division III All-America softball teams last night during the NCAA Division III Championship banquet at the Harvey Convention Center in Tyler, Texas. Luther College junior outfielder Kelsey Rose was named a third-team All-American.

Rose, who earlier this year was named the Iowa Conference Position Player of the Year, complete the season batting .483. She led the Norse with 44 RBI and 14 doubles. Her on base percentage was .515 and struck out only eight times in 120 plate appearances. She had 17 multiple-hit and 13 multiple-RBI games, including four four-hit and three four-RBI games.

Defensively, she was credited with 27 putouts and two assists while starting all 36 games in left field.

"Kelsey's hard work over the last year and her willingness to do whatever she needs to do to help her team be successful have combined to make her very deserving of this All-American season," stated Head Coach Renae Hartl. "She has developed such a tough disposition in her at-bats combing aggressiveness with patience. We have all benefited from her presence, motivation, and work ethic on a daily basis for three years and I expect next year to be no different. Her teammates and coaches are very proud of her."

The 2014 campaign was Kelsey's first season as a full time starter after spending the 2012 campaign as Luther's number two pitcher and last year splitting time between the circle, right field and the designated player.

Playing in the best conference in the NCAA III, Rose led the IIAC in batting average (.490), hits (24), RBIs (16-tie with Hayden), and ranked third in on-base percentage (.528), fourth in total bases (31), fifth in stolen bases (3) and sixth in runs scored (12).

"I am so lucky to be surrounded with great-hitting teammates and coaches that make me better every day," commented Rose. "The opposing pitcher has to go at so many in our line-up that it allows all of us to really have quality, aggressive at-bats every game. I am excited to share this honor with my team and Luther College."

With this honor, Rose becomes the 19th Luther player to earn NFCA All-American honors, and the 12th to do so during Coach Hartl's 13-year career.

Rose is the daughter of Kevin and Mary Ann Rose of Bettendorf, Iowa.
