Luther College senior Gabi Meirick has been named the Most Valuable Defensive Player for the Iowa Conference.
Meirick, a four-year starter, played a key role for a Norse defensive unit that has posted eight shutouts this season and a goals-against-average of 0.66. The Norse have allowed just 11 goals in 18 matches, in over 1500 minutes of action.
During her career, Meirick has made 68 appearances that includes 43 starts. She has been credited with one goal and four assists.
With this honor, she becomes the third consecutive Luther player to be named Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Year, joining Erin Wilson (2014) and Erin Danielson (2015).
Meirick, a 2013 graduate of Pella High School, is the daughter of Phil and Norma Meirick of Pella, Iowa.
