Simpson College outscored No. 24 Luther 10-3 in the extra five minutes of play en route to a 88-81 come-from-behind victory in overtime.
In a game that had 21 lead changes and 14 ties, Luther held a three-point advantage (78-75) with 12 ticks remaining in regulation. Moran Lonning knocked down a three-pointer with 31 seconds that gave the Norse a one-point advantage (76-75), that was followed with two free throws by Meagan Koepnick (78-75). Simpson's Brittany Hedrick, who finished the game with nine points, banked in a trey as time expired to send the game into overtime.
The trio of Kylie Romeo, Lonning and Koepnick led the Norse attack. Romeo tallied 19 points, while Lonning and Koepnick were credited with 18 and 13 respectively.
Simpson's bench outscored Luther's 43-18 primarily due to the efforts of Maddie Bosworth and Katie Ahrenholtz. Bosworth, who entered the night averaging four points per game, poured in a career high 25, while Ahrenholtz chipped in 10. Britney Boland was the lone starter for the Storm to reach double digits with 11.
The loss gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-1, while Simpson improved to 3-2. The loss also snapped Luther's 11-game win streak and will enter Saturday's game at home with Loras (3-2, 9-7) with an overall record of 14-2. Saturday's game will be video streamed starting at 2:00 p.m.
