Taylor Johnson and Nellie Nelson recorded double-doubles as Luther defeated UW-La Crosse 59-56 tonight in La Crosse. Johnson tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Nelson was credited with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Leading 36-23 at halftime, the Norse held off a 17-7 run by the Eagles who pulled to within one point (43-42), with a 7-0 run of their own that gave the Norse a 50-42 lead with just under nine minutes left in the game. The Eagles also pulled to within one point (57-56) with nine seconds left in game, when Johnson was fouled and secured the victory with two free throws.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 3-1, while host La Crosse fell to 2-2.
Luther will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they will face Nebraska Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m. This will be Luther's final game of the UW-La Crosse Holiday Classic.
