Senior point guard Moran Lonning had two more honors added to her already impressive resume this week. Lonning was been named a 2016 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Honorable Mention All-America and was also named a D3hoops.com Honorable Mention All-America.
Lonning, who joined the Norse as a junior after transferring from the University of Northern Iowa, made an immediate impact during her two years in a Norse uniform. Twice she was named the Iowa Conference MVP and in 2015 was also named the league's Defensive MVP. Luther also posted back-to-back 20-win seasons posting a record of 23-6 during the 2014-15 campaign and 20-6 in 2015-16.
She helped lead Luther to the Iowa Conference Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA III National Tournament in 2015 and this past year to the regular season championship, the first for the Norse since 2007.
She tallied 725 career points, dished out 248 assists and 147 steals. Her assist total ranks seventh on Luther's all-time list. She sits atop the all-time list for career three-point field goal percentage at 40.6% (95-234) and ranks second all-time for career free throw percentage at 83.9% (130-155).
This past season, she led the Norse is scoring (323 pts), assists (108), steals (70) and rebounds (161).
With this honor, Lonning becomes the first Norse to be recognized by the WBCA since 2007 when Blair Ernst was a third team selection.
