The Luther College men’s tennis team won its third straight match, sweeping past Central by a 9-0 score. The Norse held on to win a tie-breaker at the top doubles spot and then won all six singles matches in straight sets for the win.
Quinn Foley and James Ayer teamed up at No. 2 doubles and raced past Tim Kahl and John Seier (8-1) to give Luther its first point of the day. Matt Bellio and Sean Brown followed with an (8-3) win against Zane Hendricks and Josh Forst at No. 3. Ramesh Karki and Nick Mozena traded holds with Kyle Freischlag and West Adelman all the way into a tie-breaker before taking over and winning (9-8 (1)) to make it 3-0 heading into singles.
Torstein Jystad made quick work of Hendricks at No. 5, cruising to a (6-0, 6-0) win to make it 4-0. Bellio beat Schares (6-2, 6-1) to clinch the win for the Norse. Mozena trailed 4-0 in his opening set at No. 2 against Adelman before rolling off 12 straight games for a (6-4, 6-0) win. Foley defeated Pat Daly (6-3, 6-1) at No. 6 while Ayer was a (6-4, 6-2) winner against Kahl at No. 4. Karki closed out the match with a (6-2, 6-4) win over Freischlag at No. 1.
The Norse are now 9-9 overall and 2-1 in the IIAC.
