The Luther College men’s tennis team got back on the winning track with a 9-0 sweep of Simpson in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse saw 10 different players pick up at least one victory on the day.
Matt Bellio and Sean Brown were (8-0) winners over Blake Billings and Alex Hook at No. 2 doubles while Sam Cychosz and Aaron Ford did the same at No. 3, defeating Jeff Hadden and Dylan Hogan. Nick Mozena and James Ayer won by an (8-3) score against Zach Kusick and Peter Reitgraf at No. 1 to put the Norse in front 3-0 after doubles play.
Bellio and Cychosz stayed perfect on the day, each winning (6-0, 6-0) to finish the day without losing a single game. Bellio beat Hook at No. 1 while Cychosz dispatched Hadden at No. 4. Matt Knutson also saw action in singles and performed well, recording a (6-0, 6-2) win over Hogan at No. 5. Jason Knutson made his varsity debut this season and tallied a (6-3, 6-1) victory against Billings at No. 6. Quinn Foley nailed down a (6-3, 6-1) decision over Reitgraf at No. 3 while Torstein Jystad defeated Kusick (6-4, 6-1) at No. 2.
The Norse improve to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the IIAC with the victory. Luther is back in action against Grinnell on Sunday, April 14 at Blackhawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa.
