Men's Tennis - Case Western Reserve
|Date:||March 2, 2013|
The Luther men’s tennis team traveled to Michigan for its toughest weekend of the season, opening a three match stretch against Case Western, the No. 7 ranked team in the nation. The match was held at the DeWitt Tennis Center on the campus of Hope College in Holland, Michigan. The Norse hung around in several of the matches, ultimately falling 7-2 to the Spartans.
Case Western tallied the first point of the match at No. 3 doubles where Will Drougas and Eric Klawitter defeated Luther’s Sean Brown and Samuel Cychosz by an (8-1) score. Nick Mozena and James Ayer picked up the first point for the Norse with an (8-5) victory at No. 2 doubles. Ramesh Karki and Quinn Foley fell behind 0-4 early on at No. 1 doubles, but rallied back within 4-6 with game points to get back on serve before finally dropping an (8-4) decision.
Ayer continued his strong play with a victory at No. 5 singles. He overcame a slow start to win (1-6, 6-2, (10-7)), his third straight singles victory that was decided by a third set super tie-breaker. Karki led 5-3 in his first set at No. 1 against Drougas, a 2012 NCAA Singles Qualifier, but came out on the short end of a (7-5, 6-2) result. The Spartans won the other four matches in straight sets to earn the team victory.
