Luther posted a record of 1-2 at the 2012 NCAA III NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals held in Springfield, Ill.
No. 12 Luther lost its opening round match to No. 5 Centenary College (NJ) 27-13. Evan Obert posted a 3-0 decision at 133. Jayden DeVilbiss recorded an 8-0 major decision at 184 and Trent Flegel recorded a fall at 197.
In the first round of the consolation bracket, Luther was defeated by No. 26 Springfield 19-16. Robert Patino (125) and Evan Obert (133) got the Norse off to a 7-0 start, only to see Springfield rattle off 16 unanswered points, before DeVilbiss recorded a fall at 184. Nick Pearch completed the scoring with a decision at 285.
Luther defeated No. 16 Johns Hopkins 24-13 in an extra match. Evan Obert went 3-0 for the day recording a decision at 133. Falls by Garrett Bonte (165) and Jarid Groth (174) gave the Norse a 15-13 advantage. DeVilbiss also improved to 3-0 for the day with a decision at 184. Flegel and Pearch completed a string of four consecutive victories en route to the win.
The Norse (7-5) will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 17 when they will travel to No. 1 Wartburg for a dual that will begin at 7:00 p.m.
